IAS officer Amit Sharma (IAS:2012:AGMUT), who was recommended for central deputation by the Ministry of Home Affairs, has been appointed as Director of Census Operations (DCO) and Director of Citizen Registration (DCR) for Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh. He will replace Bhupinder Kumar (IAS:2011:AGMUT), who has been appointed as Director in the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas (MoPNG), New Delhi.
According to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on Friday (November 7, 2025), Sharma’s appointment is on a full-time basis and will remain effective from the date of assumption of charge till December 31, 2025. It may be further extended up to the admissible tenure under the Central Staffing Scheme or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
Sharma is currently serving in Mizoram as Special Secretary, Information, Communication & Technology (ICT) and Cooperation, with additional charge of DCO/DCR, Mizoram.
