Amit Kumar’s post as Minister’s Private Secretary re-designated to Director level

Competent authority has approved the re-designation of Amit Kumar’s post as Private Secretary to the Ports Minister to Director level, effective January 1, 2026.

The post held by Amit Kumar (IAS:2012:BH), who is currently serving at the level of Deputy Secretary as Private Secretary to the Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, has been re-designated to the Director level.

According to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training on Tuesday (December 23, 2025), the competent authority has approved the re-designation of the post with effect from January 1, 2026, or from the date of assumption of charge of the re-designated post, whichever is later.

The order specifies that the re-designated tenure will be valid up to August 20, 2029, or on a co-terminus basis with the Minister, or until he ceases to function as Private Secretary to the Minister, or until further orders, whichever occurs earlier.

Amit Kumar commenced his central deputation on August 21, 2024.
