IRTS Officer Alok Tripathi (IRTS:1999) has been appointed Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas for a period of five years.
An order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training on Saturday (March 14, 2026) said the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment. His term will be five years from the date he takes charge or until further orders.
Tripathi will replace Asheesh Joshi (IAS:2006:UD). Joshi had been working in the ministry since December 2020. In January 2026 he was moved to the Department of School Education and Literacy as Joint Secretary.
Tripathi is currently serving as Divisional Railway Manager of Khurda Road Division under East Coast Railway since July 2025. Earlier, he worked as Executive Director (Freight Marketing) at the Railway Board in New Delhi.
He has more than twenty five years of experience in Indian Railways. He also served as General Manager at the National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited. Earlier he had worked on deputation in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.
In the Railways he has held several posts. These include Assistant Operations Manager in Ahmedabad. Divisional Operations Manager in Vadodara. Area Railway Manager with Western Railway. He also worked as Senior Divisional Commercial Manager in Rajkot. He served as Senior Divisional Operations Manager in Rajkot, Vadodara and Ratlam divisions.
