Allahabad High Court gets 24 new Judges; vacancies drop to 55

In a major boost to the Allahabad High Court, the Union Government on Friday (September 26, 2025) notified the appointment of 24 new judges, significantly reducing the number of vacancies from 74 to 55 against its sanctioned strength of 160 judges.

Among the newly appointed judges, 10 are advocates elevated from the Bar, while 14 are judicial officers promoted from the subordinate judiciary.

Notably, the Supreme Court Collegium on September 1, 2025, had recommended 26 names for appointment as judges of the Allahabad High Court. Of these, two names — Adnan Ahmad and Jai Krishna Upadhyay — have not been included in the latest notification.
