IPS officer GK Goswami (IPS:1997:UP), the founding Director of the Uttar Pradesh State Institute of Forensic Sciences (UPSIFS), will retire on September 30, 2025, upon attaining the age of 60.

According to buzz in Lucknow’s power corridors, the state government is actively considering potential successors for the leadership of the institute. However, if no suitable candidate is finalized, there is speculation that Goswami may be entrusted with a special assignment post-retirement.

The UPSIFS, inaugurated by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on August 16, 2023, was established to promote education, training, and research in forensic sciences. Under Goswami’s leadership, the institute commenced its first academic session in 2023 and has since been playing a pivotal role in building forensic expertise in the state.

As Goswami’s retirement date approaches, attention is focused on whether the government will announce a new appointment or extend his association with the institute through a special role.
