Adil Zainulbhai will continue to serve as the Chairperson (Part-time) of the Capacity Building Commission (CBC) until July 31, 2025. According to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on Thursday (01.05.2025), the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved to extend his tenure from May 1, 2025, to July 31, 2025—or until the post is filled by a regular incumbent, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
To formalize this extension, the government relaxed existing appointment rules.
The CBC was constituted on April 1, 2021, and on the same day, Adil Zainulbhai was appointed its first Chairperson. Along with him, two Members and a Secretary were also appointed to operationalize the newly formed body. At the time, Zainulbhai was serving as Chairman of the Quality Council of India (QCI).
Most recently, his term was extended until April 30, 2025, via a DoPT order issued on March 18. The latest extension ensures continuity in leadership while the process to appoint a full-time Chairperson remains underway.
