The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has granted its approval for the appointment of three new Members to the Competition Commission of India (CCI). The newly appointed members are:
- Anil Agrawal
- Deepak Anurag
- Sweta Kakkad
Anil Agrawal (Retd IPS:1988:UP) is a former Director General of Police and served as Additional Secretary at the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade. Deepak Anurag is a former Additional Deputy Comptroller and Auditor General of India. Sweta Kakkad is an independent lawyer who previously served as Interim Chief Compliance Officer at WhatsApp. She has more than 20 years of litigation experience in commercial corporate litigation.
These appointments bolster the CCI’s composition to include four members, in addition to Chairperson Ravneet Kaur. Notably, this step by the Centre resolves the longstanding issue of quorum, which has affected the effective functioning of the watchdog for the past 11 months.
