IPS officer Sunil Kumar Bansal (IPS:1987:OR) is all set to take charge as the Odisha Director General of Police (DGP) as the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet on Sunday (16.12.2021) approved his premature repatriation to his parent cadre Odisha. Prior to this order, he was serving as Special Director, Intelligence Bureau.
Bansal will take over the charge as new Director General of Police (DGP), Odisha from January 1 on a two year term after the retirement of present incumbent Abhay (IPS:1986:OR) on December 31 this year.
A circular regarding the new appointment of Bansal as Odisha Police Chief was earlier issued by the state government on December 15.
Bansal’s name was among three others sent by the government to Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) for appointment as DGP in Odisha. The other two police officers were Manoj Chhabra (IPS:1988:OR), who is presently posted as head of State Armed Police and Pradip Kapoor (IPS:1986:OR), who is now posted as Scientific Advisor of the National Technical Research Organisation (NTRO).
