The Tamil Nadu government has appointed DVAC Director Abhay Kumar Singh (IPS:1993:TN) as the interim Director General of Police and Head of the Police Force after DGP G Venkataraman (IPS:1994:TN) was suddenly hospitalised. Venkataraman was admitted on Wednesday with severe chest pain, and doctors have recommended at least 15 days of rest. He has been sanctioned earned leave from December 9 to 23.
According to a government order issued on December 10, Abhay Kumar Singh will serve as the in-charge DGP during Venkataraman’s leave period. Singh, who heads the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, will handle both roles until the incumbent officer resumes duty.
Venkataraman had taken charge as interim DGP on August 31 following the retirement of former police chief Shankar Jiwal (IPS:1990:TN).
