Chandigarh: Nearly three weeks after the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) forwarded a panel of three IPS officers for the appointment of the Director General of Police (DGP), Punjab, the state government is yet to announce its decision, keeping the suspense over the top police post alive.
The UPSC panel comprises three 1992-batch IPS officers — acting DGP Gaurav Yadav, Chief Director, Vigilance Bureau, Sharad Satya Chauhan, and Special DGP Harpreet Singh Sidhu, who has remained without a posting since his repatriation from central deputation.
Generally, state governments announce the appointment of a regular DGP soon after receiving the UPSC panel of three IPS officers. However, in Punjab’s case, nearly three weeks have passed since the panel was received, but the appointment is yet to be announced.
Gaurav Yadav has been holding the charge of Punjab DGP since June 2022. With no announcement from the state government even after the UPSC panel was received, speculation over who will be appointed as the next regular DGP continues.
