Bhopal: The Madhya Pradesh government on Wednesday (July 22, 2026) appointed senior IAS officer Ashok Barnwal (IAS:1991:MP) as the new Chief Secretary of the state. He succeeds Anurag Jain (IAS:1989:MP), who has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of NITI Aayog by the Central government.
The appointment order was issued late on Wednesday, shortly after the Centre announced Anurag Jain’s appointment as CEO of NITI Aayog.
Barnwal is currently serving as Additional Chief Secretary, Health and Medical Education Department. He will hold the post of Chief Secretary until his retirement in January 2027.
During his administrative career spanning over 35 years, Barnwal has served in key positions across sectors including governance, healthcare, agriculture, forests, food security, environmental management and public policy.
