UP to see new IPS postings; Renuka Mishra likely to become DG, Rules and Manuals

Mishra is the UP’s senior-most IPS officer and was a contender for the DGP post also, but her chances were ruined by the constable recruitment controversy.

Renuka Mishra IPS

After the appointment of Rajeev Krishna (IPS:1991:UP) as permanent DGP of Uttar Pradesh, it was expected that long-pending police postings would take place shortly. However, the transfer list remains on hold, with appointments to several senior posts, including DG, ADG, and IG, yet to be finalised.

There was a hitch in the May 31 order confirming Rajeev Krishna as regular DGP, as it did not mention the additional charge of the DG, Vigilance Department, that he had been holding. As a result, the DG Vigilance post is now technically vacant.

Similarly, DG Rules & Manual Antony Dev Kumar (IPS:1994:UK) retired on May 31 after being promoted from ADG to DG post in March 2026. Within the police department, the post is often viewed as a non-field assignment, and because Dev Kumar was nearing retirement, he was not given a major field posting.

Now, there is strong speculation that Renuka Mishra (IPS:1990:UP) could be posted as DG Rules & Manual. She is the senior-most IPS officer in the state and was also considered a contender for the DGP post.

However, her chances were ruined by the constable recruitment paper leak controversy, as the state government, in its report to the UPSC, stated that a blacklisted company was awarded the paper-printing contract during her tenure as Recruitment Board Chairperson.

Following the controversy, she was attached to the DGP headquarters and is awaiting a new posting.

There are vacancies at the senior level in the Gorakhpur Zone and Mirzapur Range as well.

After Antony Dev Kumar’s retirement, Gorakhpur Zone ADG Ashok Mutha Jain (IPS:1995:UP) was promoted as DG, rendering the post of ADG, Gorakhpur Zone, vacant.

Similarly, Mirzapur Range IG Rakesh Prakash Singh (IPS:2007:UP) retired on May 31 after serving in the range for four years. The post now remains vacant.

Besides, the posts of DIG, STF, and IG, Devipatan Range, are also vacant. DIG STF Ghule Sushil Chandrabhan (IPS:2012:UP) has proceeded on central deputation as Deputy Director in the Intelligence Bureau (IB), while IG, Devipatan Range, Amit Pathak (IPS:2007:UP) has joined the National Security Guard (NSG) on central deputation too. Both posts are awaiting new appointments.
