A meeting of high-power selection panel, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, failed to reach a consensus on the appointment of a new director for the Central Bureau of Investigation at a meeting held on Thursday. The panel, which also includes Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge, is slated to meet again next week to take a final call on the CBI chief.

According to sources, panel considerd a list of eligible officers but Mallikarjun Kharge has “tacitly dissented” on most names, asking for more information on the concerned officers as the list have had very basic details about the officers, such as the cadre, and their date of appointment and retirement.
