The Bihar government on Tuesday (December 16, 2025) revoked the suspension of senior IAS officer Sanjeev Hans (IAS:1997:BH), almost a year after his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate in a money-laundering and corruption case. Hans had been in judicial custody since October 2024. He is now expected to receive a posting in the state administration soon.

Hans was Principal Secretary (Energy) when he was arrested. His suspension has been lifted after he was granted conditional bail by the Patna High Court in October this year. He had spent nearly a year in jail during the investigation.

The High Court, while granting bail, barred him from travelling abroad and asked him to appear before the court regularly during the trial. The court also noted gaps in the prosecution’s case, pointing out that there was no clear evidence showing that the alleged proceeds of crime were used through identifiable financial transactions. On these grounds, the court said that keeping him in jail any longer was not justified.

In the same case, the Patna High Court has also granted bail to three other accused linked to private firms involved in the alleged bribery and money-laundering connected to tenders, including those for smart meters.
