With four new IAS officers joining the Chandigarh administration within the past two months, it is to be seen how it affects the bureaucratic working and pace of progress in the UT.
Out of these four IAS officers, two are from Haryana and one each from AGMUT and Punjab cadres; Mandip Brar (IAS:2005:HY) has taken charge as Home Secretary, Diprava Lakra (IAS:2005:PB) as Finance Secretary, Prerna Puri (IAS:2006:AGMUT) as Education Secretary, and Nishant Kumar Yadav (IAS:2013:HY) as Deputy Commissioner of Chandigarh.
There are several core issues that dog the UT administration such as matters related to estate, transport, housing, metro project in the Tricity among others. These are issues which are under consideration of the central government and hence needs to be immediately disposed off.
According to a source, other issues that bother UT administration are school related, dealing with encroachments and fixing fresh collector rates. With these four new officers at the top pending works in important departments are likely to be addressed soon.
