The Andhra Pradesh government has appointed retired IPS officer AR Anuradha (Retd.IPS:1987:AP) as new Chairperson of the Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) on Wednesday. She succeeds Gautam Sawang (Retd.IPS:1986:AP), who resigned from the post on July 4, leaving the position vacant for months.

Though several names were considered for the role, the state government selected Anuradha for her integrity, efficiency and proven record of impartial service, amidst its effort to revamp APPSC.

Anuradha is the first woman IPS officer to lead the Intelligence Department in Andhra Pradesh. Her career includes significant roles such as Director General of Vigilance and Enforcement, as well as Superintendent of Police (SP) and Inspector General (IG) in multiple districts.
