WB: Reshuffle in police administration, MK Verma is new Kolkata CP

The West Bengal government on Tuesday (17.09.2024) effected major reshuffle in police administration by issuing transfer orders for six IPS officers. According to an order issued by the Home department, Manoj Kumar Verma has been appointed new Kolkata Police Commissioner in place of Vineet Kumar Goyal, who has been made ADG & IGP, STF.

The name of the officers and their postings are as follows;

  1. Vineet Kumar Goyal (IPS:1994:WB), Commissioner of Police, Kolkata, has been transferred and posted as ADG & IGP, STF.
  2. Gyanwant Singh (IPS:1993:WB), Director, Director, Directorate of Economic Offences, has been transferred and posted as ADG & IGP, IB.
  3. Jawed Shamim (IPS:1995:WB), ADG & IGP, IB, has been transferred and posted as ADG, Law & Order.
  4. Manoj Kumar Verma (IPS:1994:WB), ADG, Law & Order, has been transferred and posted as Commissioner of Police, Kolkata.
  5. Tripurari Atharv (IAS:1995:WB), ADG & IGP, STF, has been transferred and posted as Director, Director, Directorate of Economic Offences.
  6. Abhishek Gupta (IPS:2011:WB), DC, North Division, Kolkata, has been transferred and posted as Commanding Officer, EFR, 2nd Battalion.
  7. Dipak Sarkar (IPS-SPS:2014:WB), DC, East Siliguri PC, has been transferred and posted as DC North Division, Kolkata.

Notably, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, after a meeting with the doctors, announced on Monday midnight that ex-Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal, Director of Medical Education (DME) Kaustav Nayek, and north Kolkata Deputy Commissioner Abhishek Gupta, and Director of health services Debashish Haldar would be removed from their respective posts.

The government also removed Dr Kaustav Nayak and Dr Debasish Halder from the position of Director of Medical Education (DME) and the Director of Health Services (DHS) respectively, a health department order said. Dr Swapan Soren was appointed the new in-charge director of health services and Dr Suparna Dutta officer on special duty of medical education, it added.

Nayak was appointed the Director of the Institute of Health and Family Welfare while Halder was posted as the officer on special duty of Public health at Swasthya Bhawan.
