Telangana: Dr. Jitender appointed new DGP

The Telangana government on Wednesday appointed senior IPS officer Dr. Jitender (IPS:1992:TG) as the new Director General of Police (DGP). According to an order issued by the General Administration Department (GAD), he has been assigned the role of DGP, Coordination, with full additional charge as the DGP (HoPF) of the state. Currently, Jitender is serving as Principal Secretary of Home. He succeeds Ravi Gupta (IPS:1990:TG), who has been posted as Special Chief Secretary, Home. This is the first time in the state’s history that an IPS officer has been entrusted with the responsibility of Special Chief Secretary, Home.

Dr. Jitender began his career as an Assistant Superintendent of Police in Nirmal. He served as Additional SP in Bellampally and as SP of Mahbubnagar and Guntur districts during a period of intense Maoist activity. He also worked with the elite anti-Maoist force Greyhounds and also the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Throughout his service, Dr. Jitender has been honored with several awards, including the President’s Police Medal for Gallantry, the President’s Police Medal for Meritorious Service, the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service, and the Internal Security Medal by the Government of India.

On December 3 of last year, Ravi Gupta, who was then Director General of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), was appointed as the DGP following the Election Commission of India’s directive. This directive came after the suspension of the then-police chief Anjani Kumar (IPS:1990:TG) for violating the Model Code of Conduct by meeting state Congress chief Revanth Reddy while vote counting was still underway.
