Sadanand Vasant Date (IPS:1990:MH), currently serving as the Anti-Terrorism Squad Chief of Maharashtra, has been appointed as the Director General (DG) of the National Investigation Agency (NIA). This significant move was confirmed through an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on Tuesday, March 26, 2024.
The appointment comes following the approval of the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), which has endorsed Date’s tenure as the Director General (DG) of the NIA until his scheduled retirement on December 31, 2026. In assuming this role, Date will succeed Dinkar Gupta (IPS:1987:PB), who is set to retire on March 31.
