In anticipation of the upcoming G20 Summit in less than a month, a group of over a dozen newly-inducted civil servants has been deployed in Delhi for continuous patrolling to identify gaps in the preparations. This strategic move aims to provide practical field exposure to these young probationers, including two Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers and thirteen from the Delhi, Andaman, and Nicobar Island Civil Services (DANICS) cadre. They are engaged in round-the-clock inspections and are responsible for submitting detailed reports to their superiors.
This proactive initiative was initiated following the guidance of Delhi Lt Governor VK Saxena, with the aim of addressing any deficiencies in the preparations carried out by various agencies.
Accompanying the Lt Governor during his daily visits to different areas of the city, the young probationers are closely monitoring ongoing tasks such as road and footpath repairs, horticulture, and overall cleanliness. This unique exposure allows them to interact with the upper echelons of the government hierarchy.
The probationers have been assigned three primary focus areas. Firstly, they are conducting inspections of nurseries operated by various agencies to assess the availability of plants and identify any gaps in resources.
Secondly, they are inspecting the roads leading from the international airport to the different hotels where G20 Summit delegates will be accommodated. Their findings and observations will be consolidated into a report and submitted to the Delhi chief secretary.
Furthermore, the probationers are actively aiding district coordinators in assessing roads and other assigned projects. Notably, senior IAS officers have been appointed as coordinators to oversee district-level monitoring of the preparatory efforts.
These probationers have been working tirelessly since July 20, contributing significantly to the administrative efforts. This involvement has granted them invaluable exposure and hands-on experience in managing intricate and challenging G20-related initiatives, as highlighted by officials.
In a previous initiative directed by Saxena, an IAS officer and three DANICS probationers were deployed to accompany road-cleaning teams that employed mechanical sweepers to maintain the city’s thoroughfares.
