45 IRS-IT officers promoted as Principal Commissioners of Income Tax

The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) on Tuesday (September 23, 2025) promoted 45 senior Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officers to the grade of Principal Commissioner of Income Tax (Pr. CIT) on an in-situ basis, effective from the date they assume charge.

This follows the decision of the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), which on September 13, 2025, had approved the empanelment of 46 IRS officers for promotion to the rank of Principal Commissioner of Income Tax (PCIT) in Level 15 of the Pay Matrix for the panel year 2025. Of these, 45 officers have now been promoted, with one officer yet to be elevated.

According to the order, the promoted officers will continue to hold charge of their existing posts until formal posting orders are issued.
