About 203 IPS officers may face punitive action for their failure to join Special Foundation Course at Dr MCR HRD Institute of Telangana at
Hyderabad. The Centre has warned the states of strict action against 203 IPS officers from 2018 to 2022 batch who have not attended their
Foundation Course so far.
The Centre has written a letter to Chief Secretaries and DGPs reminding them of the communication sent by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) that a Special Foundation Course is to be conducted for backlog officers up to 2022 batch, but a total of 203 Direct Recruit IPS backlog officers are yet to undergo their Foundation Course.
The Centre has warned the states that disciplinary action would be initiated against the erring officers under the Indian Police Service (Probation) Rules, 1954, as it would be construed as willfully neglecting probationary studies and so will be treated as guilty of misconduct.

There are, in fact, a total 443 officers. Apart from 203 IPS officers, there are around 93 officers of other services and 147 officers of 2023 and 2024 batches.
