203 IPS officers to face action for skipping Foundation Course

The Centre has written a letter to Chief Secretaries and DGPs reminding them of the communication sent by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) that a Special Foundation Course is to be conducted for backlog officers up to 2022 batch, but a total of 203 Direct Recruit IPS backlog officers are yet to undergo their Foundation Course.

The Centre has warned the states that disciplinary action would be initiated against the erring officers under the Indian Police Service (Probation) Rules, 1954, as it would be construed as willfully neglecting probationary studies and so will be treated as guilty of misconduct.

There are, in fact, a total 443 officers. Apart from 203 IPS officers, there are around 93 officers of other services and 147 officers of 2023 and 2024 batches.
