More than a dozen important vacancies of Secretary and Additional Secretary-level positions at the Centre are going to be filled soon. The all- powerful Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) is reportedly in the process of finalizing the names of country’s senior bureaucrats for these positions. If sources are to be believed a few candidates have already been shortlisted for Secretary-level roles.

There are four Secretary-level posts which are currently vacant in different departments or ministry like the Ministry of Culture, Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT), Department of Public Enterprises (DPE), and Department of Higher Education. For the DoPT and Higher Education positions appointments may take some additional time due to certain technical considerations.

Nearly ten crucial posts at the Additional Secretary level, which have been vacant for months, are also to be filled. These include Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Chairman of the Food Corporation of India (FCI), CEO of Government e-Marketplace (GeM),CEO of the National Health Authority (NHA), Chairman of Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA), Director General of the National Testing Agency (NTA),Vice Chairman of the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), and Secretary of the North Eastern Council (NEC).

Some of these positions, including those in the NTA, JNPA, and NEC, have been vacant for several months, with more vacancies expected soon. Apart from it, the upcoming appointments may also include members of the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) and three positions in the Central Information Commission (CIC).
