The Bihar government ordered premature retirement of 1994-batch IPS officer Amitabh Kumar Das with immediate effect in the “public interest” on Monday .

The officer is currently posted as assistant commissioner, civil defence, in Patna. Amitabh was informed about the government decision via a letter, which was dispatched on Monday itself.

Amitabh is going to challenge state goverment’s order in the court. He said ” The letter did not give any reason behind the decision to retire me prematurely. It just says that it has been done in public interest.”.

The IPS officer also pointed out that the government’s order is also in contempt of the Supreme Court order, which dismissed all cases against me in September 2016 and gave me clean chit. It also ordered the pay-scale of Inspector General (IG) for him. Previously, he had served in the pay scale of superintendent of police till 2017.

Amitabh is already pursuing a case in the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) Patna bench seeking his posting as an IG.
